As we helplessly hurdle down the tunnel towards political hell, I spend a lot of time examining the various different ideological camps to understand their arguments. I’ve only recently ventured heavily into social media spaces like Twitter or Reddit for political perspectives. The results of my limited, and anecdotal experience have been daunting.
I admit that I was naive. I believed that the Progressive Statist was simply uninformed. It was my hypothesis that they have only allowed themselves to be exposed to a limited set of facts, thus forming their opinion about a particular issue. While this theory is true on its surface, it appears the divide is much deeper. There exists a point at which the acceptance of certain “facts” as truth requires that one simply refuse to read or refuse to perform even the most basic analysis.
Enter Elizabeth Warren. Warren, who is no doubt running for President in 2020, released results from a supposed DNA test to prove her Native American heritage. This was supposed to settle a debate that has enraged since Warren became well known thanks to her identifying as Native American for the purposes of elevating her law and political careers. The evidence of her attempts to do so is rather overwhelming, and the academic institutions she was part of were only too happy to go along with the lie.
So how have the various political camps reacted to the news? They are responding as you might expect. One side happily repeats the legacy media’s analysis, the other actually reads the articles.
While Progressives were parroting what outlets were saying, media such as the Boston Globe were busy retracting several aspects of their stories, because math is hard.
“Correction: Due to a math error, a story about Elizabeth Warren misstated the ancestry percentage of a potential 10th generation relative. It should be 1/1,024,” the Globe said in its correction
. That would put the percentage at .097.
Wait, what? We have a woman running around claiming to be a “woman of color” over 1/1024 – 1/64 worth of Native American ancestry?
It gets better, and the information is RIGHT inside the very Boston Globe article coming under fire, if only people would read it.
To make up for the dearth of Native American DNA, Bustamante used samples from Mexico, Peru, and Colombia to stand in for Native American. That’s because scientists believe that the groups Americans refer to as Native American came to this land via the Bering Strait about 12,000 years ago and settled in what’s now America but also migrated further south. His report explained that the use of reference populations whose genetic material has been fully sequenced was designed “for maximal accuracy.”
So we’re having to “tease” out Native American DNA by using DNA from South America as a reference somehow? All this situation does is show that the DNA results are nothing more than a specific methodology used by
Carlos D. Bustamante, who is the individual from Stanford who performed the analysis. Why Warren wasn’t able to use any of the popular DNA testing services via Ancestry sites is beyond me. Most likely, he wouldn’t have given the answer she wanted. Breibart summarizes it as such:
Warren’s DNA test, even if accurate, would put her genome at somewhere between 0.1 percent and 1.56 percent Native American, meaning she could be no more Native American than the average “European-American,” or even less so.
Even with the very suspicious methods of obtaining the DNA results, Warren is still, at best, able to claim she is 1/64th Native American. This hardly qualifies her to claim any such ethnicity. 23andMe reports that European Americans have genomes of .19% African and .18% Native American. She is no more Native American than anyone else of European decent here in America.
Yet, we have the two Americas celebrating totally different things. We have Progressive Democrats claiming Warren as bested President Trump by proving she has Native American ancestry, and you have everyone else pointing out that this only proves Warren has been lying the whole time. So how much Native American blood do you need to obtain membership with a particular tribe? A lot more than Warren has got.
Most tribes require a specific percentage of Native “blood,” called blood quantum, in addition to being able to document which tribal member you descend from. Some tribes require as much as 25% Native heritage, and most require at least 1/16th Native heritage, which is one great-great grandparent.
So that just about settles it. Unless Warren has got someone who is 4 generations or less, she’s not going to make the cut. Yet, these are facts which not only are ignored by Progressive Democrats, they probably are not even aware of them. No doubt the prevailing viewpoint is ANY Native American DNA proves Warren was telling the truth.
This brings us back to my original thought. We have Progressive Democrats living in their own alternative reality where facts not only don’t matter, they don’t exist in their minds. Any free thinking individual, presented with the facts above, should at least conclude that the notion she is Native American is totally false. If true, then most people in America can claim Native American (and many others) ancestry. It is insanity.
This alternative reality can only exist because Progressives do not read. They do not take the time to examine news information, and simply repeat the facts as displayed in the headlines. So long as the headline supports a position they like, they believe it. If it does not support a position of theirs, it is rejected. This is one of the primary differences between the two political philosophies. You have to be nearly illiterate to believe that Socialism, for example, is a positive method of economic and political control given the 100 million people killed in the 20th century from it. Likewise, you’d have to be totally ignorant to believe that Elizabeth Warren is anymore Native American than anyone else of European decent.
Yet, the Progressives march on in their own reality believing they scored some kind of victory over the President. This kind of ignorance is not only counterproductive, but dangerous. When Progressives really believe that Conservatives are Nazis, then it isn’t a far jump to these same “Resistance” fighters using violence to allegedly protect their right to even “exist” in the world.
How are we supposed to co-exist with a political philosophy hell bent on imposing its will on the country, when the believers of such a philosophy do not even examine the most basic facts of arguments? The Postmodern aspect of relative truth takes on a whole new form when the individual manufacturers their own version of the truth, when the real truth lies just beyond the headline in the article itself.
If Progressives are incapable or unwilling to do something as simple as read, there is unlikely to be any way their politics can be compatible with the rational and fact based politics of Individualism or Conservatism.
